Theft is no laughing matter, but it is nice to know that dogs will not be the sole party to blame in the future for fire hydrant abuse.

Doggie Daycares Are Still Popular

When they first came about, many people were skeptical of the idea behind doggie daycares. The idea of paying someone to watch a dog for just a few hours didn’t sit well with a lot of people. Most people were familiar with kenneling a dog overnight, but this was different… this was basically a babysitter for their dog. The idea has not only caught on but with more and more doggie daycares opening all the time, it looks like it’ll be around to stay for quite some time.

The State of Florida announced a new plan that will give out rewards for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person involved in dog fight, or animal fighting of any kind. This is a great step in the battle against the inhumane process of pitting dogs against eachother in a battle that always ends in injury and sometimes ends with one dog being killed. The recognition of animal fighting as a violent crime isn’t enough, steps like this need to be taken so that offenders know that they will not only be punished but that it is getting more and more likely that they will be turned in for it.

How Important Is A Police Dog To A Police Department?

Here is a story about a local police department who could not get the money in their budget to actually go for the purchase of a police dog. Frustrated with the system, the purchase of a police dog was made by a sheriff’s deputy instead. Now goes the problem of continuing the dog’s training and paying for its upkeep. The department had been without a K-9 officer since 2006. Interesting that a deputy thought the purchase so important as to pay for it himself when the overseers of the budget wouldn’t authorize the purchase.
